Short answer: September. The reason has less to do with sales pressure and more to do with how the Nova Scotia calendar actually works.
The install window is narrower than people think
Lights have to go up after the worst of the autumn rain and before the roofline is iced over. In HRM that realistically means a window running from roughly early October to the first serious freeze. Every crew in the region is working the same window, for every customer who wants lights on by the start of December.
That is why booking is not first-come-first-served in any comfortable sense — it is first-come-first-served against a hard weather deadline.
What booking early actually gets you
Your preferred install date
Early bookings choose their slot. Late bookings take what is left, which in a bad year is after the date you wanted lights on.
A consultation in daylight, without rush
In September we can walk your property properly, talk through design options, and plan something considered. In mid-November every consultation is squeezed between installs.
Proper material planning
When we supply the lights, they are cut and prepared for your specific rooflines. Lead time means that is done well rather than improvised.
The early-booking discount
We run a discount for bookings confirmed before December 1. It exists because an early booking genuinely helps us plan the season.
If you are reading this in November: call anyway. Cancellations happen and we keep a waitlist. But be honest with yourself about the date you need — and if it slips, permanent lighting installed in spring is a way to never have this problem again.
What the season looks like end to end
- September — consultation and booking. Free site visit, design, exact quote, install date locked in.
- October to November — install. Most residential installs are a single day. You do not need to be home.
- December — the season. If anything fails, we come back out. That is included when we supply the lights.
- January — takedown. Everything comes down carefully, clips included.
- Off-season — storage. We keep your lights labelled and ready, so next year is faster and cheaper to schedule.
A note on weather
We do not install on icy roofs. That is not caution for its own sake — it is the single biggest safety factor in this trade, and it is also how lights end up badly fitted. If a freeze lands on your install date we will reschedule, and having booked early is what makes rescheduling possible.
