How Much Does Christmas Light Installation Cost in Halifax?

The honest answer is that nobody can quote your house from a web page. What we can do is show you exactly how the number is built, so that when you get a quote — from us or anyone else — you know whether it is fair.

Holiday Heroes prices seasonal work by the linear foot of lit roofline. That keeps it simple and comparable between houses.

What moves the number up or down

Two houses with the same roofline length can land at very different prices. These are the factors that matter:

Linear footage

The single biggest driver. This is the actual run of roofline, soffit, gable, porch and railing you want lit — not the square footage of the house. A modest bungalow might be 90 feet. A two-storey with multiple gables and a detached garage can easily pass 250.

Roof height and pitch

A single-storey ranch is ladder work. A steep three-storey peak is harness, longer ladders, and significantly more time per foot. Height is the main reason two houses of similar length quote differently.

Surface and attachment type

Standard aluminium gutters and shingle edges take clips quickly. Stone, stucco, exposed beams and non-standard trim take longer and sometimes need different hardware.

Complexity of the design

A clean warm-white roofline outline is the fastest install there is. Wrapping columns, lighting trees, running garland along railings, and adding wreaths all add labour beyond the per-foot roofline rate.

Access

Landscaping, decks, fences and tight side-yards all affect how quickly a ladder can be safely placed and moved.

Rough planning range. Most single-family homes across HRM land somewhere between a modest roofline outline and a full multi-gable display. The per-foot rate is fixed; the footage and height are what set your total. A free consultation gets you an exact number rather than a range.

What is included in the seasonal rate

When we supply the lights, the $10 per linear foot is not just the install. It covers:

  • Design consultation — we walk the property and plan the layout with you before anything is ordered
  • Commercial-grade lights — supplied, fitted and sized to your house, not big-box strands
  • Professional install — custom-cut runs, hidden clips, tidy cable management
  • Mid-season maintenance — if something fails during the season, we come back and fix it
  • Takedown in January — removed carefully, no clips left behind
  • Off-season storage — we keep them labelled and ready for next year

That last point matters more than people expect. Storing strands properly is most of why lights fail in year two.

Why we don't publish a calculator

A calculator that asks for your square footage and spits out a price is guessing. It cannot see your roof pitch, your gutter type, or the tree in front of the gable. We would rather spend twenty minutes at your house and give you a number we will actually honour.

Permanent lighting: a different calculation

Permanent programmable LED runs $12 per foot as a one-time install. It is a larger number up front, and then there is no seasonal cost at all — no annual install fee, no takedown, no storage. If you plan to light your house every year for the next decade, it is worth asking us to price both options side by side so you can compare properly.
